Dundee Westgait buildings update
This message was read out to the Congregation of Dundee Westgait on Sunday 21st June 2026.
When Dundee Westgait was established, The Presbytery of Perth plan allocated us three buildings – Lochee, Menzieshill plus one of Roseangle or Shaftesbury Terrace.
They instructed us to undertake two pieces of work to assist us in making the decision regarding future use of buildings.
Firstly, there was to be a review regarding whether one of the buildings was in a better location for the purposes of mission. An Independent Mission Consultant (Neil Campbell) was appointed, and his report said:
‘Having assessed the buildings against mission alignment, community need, accessibility, building suitability, financial sustainability, and future adaptability, the conclusion of this review is that Shaftesbury Terrace should be retained. Roseangle should be released sensitively, recognising the deep attachment felt by congregation members and long-standing community users.’
Secondly, an independent review of the costs associated with the buildings was to be undertaken by an Architect. This was to report back on three areas:
- the cost of ensuring the buildings were wind, watertight,
- the cost of ensuring they were structurally sound, and
- the cost to make them compliant with disability and safety legislation.
This report was produced by James F Stephen Architects, and they concluded that costs were as follows:
Roseangle Centre £1.5 million excluding VAT
and
Shaftesbury Terrace Centre £500,000 excluding VAT.
The Kirk Session met on Tuesday 16th June 2026 and agreed to close and sell the Roseangle Centre.
The Kirk Session agreed a closing service will be held on Sunday 27th September 2026 at the Roseangle Centre. This will be a service of Holy Communion and dignitaries from Presbytery and former ministers of Dundee West will be invited.
It was agreed that the Roseangle Centre will close to all activities from 1st October, 2026, and current users of the building are being informed of this deadline, and being made aware of the other properties around Westgait.
The Roseangle Building will be open from 7pm to 8pm on Sunday 21st June for anyone who wants to have a time of quiet prayer.
It will also be open on Tuesday 23rd June from 1:30pm to 2:30pm.
